Chandler is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, and a suburb of the Phoenix, Arizona, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). It is bordered to the north and west by Tempe area, to the north by Mesa, to the west by Phoenix, to the south by the Gila River Indian Community, and to the east by Gilbert. As of 2019, the population was estimated at 261,165 according to the United States Census Bureau.

Chandler is a growing neighborhood with a lot to offer. Because of its award-winning school district and lively downtown area, it is the ideal blend of family-friendly and multicultural living environments. The downtown district, which is organized around a central square known as Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, has retained much of its historic character despite the fact that it is located in one of the fastest expanding regions in the country. The city has grown at an exponential rate, but it has reached its maximum size. As a result, new construction (and, consequently, population expansion) will be significantly curtailed. Year-round events such as the Ostrich Festival, Indian Market, Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Ceremony, and the Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Races bring residents together to share in a range of unique and wonderful experiences.

Dr. Alexander John Chandler, the first veterinary surgeon in Arizona Territory, settled on a ranch south of Mesa in 1891 to study irrigation engineering. He was the first veterinary surgeon in Arizona Territory. With the purchase of 18,000 acres of property, he began laying out plans for a townsite on what was then known as the Chandler Ranch. He died in the same year. The townsite office first opened its doors in May of 1912.

By 1913, a town center had been created, which included the Hotel San Marcos, which was also home to the state’s first grass golf course, which opened in 1915. Chandler High School first opened its doors in 1914. Chandler became a city on February 16, 1920, following a petition signed by 186 citizens asking the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to authorize incorporation. Dr. A.J. Chandler, the town’s founder, was elected as the president of the town’s first Town Council and as the town’s inaugural mayor.
